Why Plutarch?
Ralph Waldo Emerson put it more precisely than the popular paraphrase: “there is properly no history; only biography.”¹ Every era, once it’s written down, turns out to be an account of the people who built it. Every history was once a future — and every future, energy’s included, will get the same treatment.
That future is being built now, at a scale worth naming: global energy investment is on pace for $3.4 trillion in 2026, with clean energy alone accounting for $2.2 trillion — nearly double fossil fuels.² Behind every dollar of it is a person: the engineer who can commission a substation, the trader who can price a spread nobody’s priced before, the technician too scarce to compete for, the recruiter who has to find all three before a competitor gets there first.
Plutarch of Chaeronea spent his life writing Parallel Lives — pairing Greek and Roman statesmen against one another to argue that character, not circumstance, decided how events turned out.³ Plutarch Labs runs the same instinct on today’s energy talent market: instead of a static, continent-wide salary guide, it reads the market’s live signals and turns them into a cited, evidence-bound record of who’s building the transition — and what it actually takes to hire them.
